Hi, reader. I wrote this in 2002 and it's now more than five years old. So it may be very out of date; the world, and I, have changed a lot since I wrote it! I'm keeping this up for historical archive purposes, but the me of today may 100% disagree with what I said then. I rarely edit posts after publishing them, but if I do, I usually leave a note in italics to mark the edit and the reason. I've been listening to music passionately these days. Leonard played me a bunch of his stuff this weekend, oldies and new-to-me tunes. He has an outstanding new piece that he hasn't recorded -- "What's Your 20?" -- and it's my favorite ever. And I got into a heady argument with him over the ending of "Sally O'Sally" -- the first time in a long time that I've so loudly and at such length stated my views on a piece of music, perhaps the first time since I understood "Hook" by Blues Traveler.

And he played the Foo Fighters' "Big Me" a few times for me, so now it's stuck in my head, along with a medley of labor tunes and his music -- so clever, so much like him -- and "My Ocean Lies Over the Ocean."

I should go clean the floor now.
