Women

Hi, reader. I wrote this in 2004 and it's now more than five years old. So it may be very out of date; the world, and I, have changed a lot since I wrote it! I'm keeping this up for historical archive purposes, but the me of today may 100% disagree with what I said then. I rarely edit posts after publishing them, but if I do, I usually leave a note in italics to mark the edit and the reason. If this post is particularly offensive or breaches someone's privacy, please contact me.

Last night I stayed up too late watching Part I of the original Prime Suspect. Yes, the critics love Helen Mirren for a reason.

Women I have wanted to be (an incomplete list):

  • Jane Tennison.
  • Tina Fey.
  • Once upon a time, Cokie Roberts. (A fantasy of my younger days. On today's Morning Edition she said that the Madrid terror attacks had affected their election results, ignoring the fact that pre-attack polls and post-attack polls both strongly favored the challenger. Yeah, she's off the list.)
  • Casey Singleton, possibly the only appealing character Michael Crichton ever wrote, in Airframe.
