New Slang

Hi, reader. I wrote this in 2008 and it's now more than five years old. So it may be very out of date; the world, and I, have changed a lot since I wrote it! I'm keeping this up for historical archive purposes, but the me of today may 100% disagree with what I said then. I rarely edit posts after publishing them, but if I do, I usually leave a note in italics to mark the edit and the reason. If this post is particularly offensive or breaches someone's privacy, please contact me.

I'm updating my very out-of-date slang dictionary; if I have turns of speech that call out for noting or explanation, comment away. Newest entry: "Birthday."

So I Married an Axe Murderer is for me in the same strange mental category as, say, The Man Who Knew Too Little; good, but not great, movies that I have only watched once or twice but which I remember vividly and more fondly than they probably deserve. Wayne's World may have defined my childhood, but I strongly suspect it was Axe Murderer that instilled in me a largely inexplicable love for blond Caucasian women in Chinese-style red silk dresses with Mandarin collars. (I figure, if you're going to have a fetish, you may as well be specific with it.)

I should really compile a slang dictionary of my own, but I suspect most of my really interesting coinages are too ephemeral to be catalogued. Besides, I don't really trust my own perceptions with this sort of thing.
