Learning

Hi, reader. I wrote this in 2009 and it's now more than five years old. So it may be very out of date; the world, and I, have changed a lot since I wrote it! I'm keeping this up for historical archive purposes, but the me of today may 100% disagree with what I said then. I rarely edit posts after publishing them, but if I do, I usually leave a note in italics to mark the edit and the reason. If this post is particularly offensive or breaches someone's privacy, please contact me.

In the last two weeks, I have learned rather a lot about configuring and troubleshooting usage of Empathy, Telepathy, Synaptic, PPAs, git, TeX/LaTeX/dvi, gtimelog, IRC and bip, RSA SSH, and XMPP. Well, it was a lot to me.

I've also learned that if I want to get up around 6am consistently, I have to go to bed around 9 or 10pm consistently, and that if I work in a windowless rented office then I won't know till I leave that it's raining. So I'll just be making a cameo at the io9/Tor.com shindig tonight, and I'm trying to pay attention to the weather symbols in the clock gadget in my taskbar.

I recognize almost all of this stuff, but what's "div" in the context of TeX?

Heh, you're becoming a real Linux user. After you've compiled your first kernel, your training will be complete.<br/>-S

Zack: "div" was my misspelling of "dvi," now fixed. Obviously I am not leet enough just yet.

Stuart, give me a few months!

Aw, I was hoping "div" was some nifty new TeX module that would make my documentation-writing ever so much easier.
